Samsung Galaxy XR
Tier 2Android XR's flagship. Excellent passthrough hardware, locked-down Play Store, sideloading via ADB is the route.
Tier 3 — Falls back to 180° VR
No usable colour passthrough. AR scenes still play, but you'll get the original studio environment as plain 180° VR — same performer, none of the format's point. Documented here so you don't waste money assuming AR will work.
PlayStation VR2
Tier 3OLED panels but only greyscale passthrough — AR overlays aren't practical. Use it for 180° VR adult content instead.
Pimax Crystal
Tier 3Best-in-class resolution for traditional VR, no passthrough cameras. AR overlay isn't a feature here.

AR porn keeps your real room visible via colour passthrough and composites just the performer on top — your couch, your floor, the wall behind you. Same scenes can ship in both formats; AR needs a colour-passthrough headset to render the overlay.
Do I need a PC to watch AR porn?+
Not on a Quest 3, Quest 3s, or Galaxy XR — those decode 4K and 6K SBS files standalone. A PC link unlocks the 8K tier and removes Air Link compression on fast-motion scenes. The Bigscreen Beyond 2 is PCVR-only by design, so for that one you need a tether.

Can I watch AR porn on my phone?+
No — AR overlay needs colour passthrough cameras that no phone has at the framing or latency a headset does. You can play the SBS file in a cardboard viewer and get the 180° VR fallback, but the performer-in-your-room effect doesn't survive that downgrade.
Does AR porn work on the Apple Vision Pro?+
Yes, but Apple's App Store doesn't list any adult content app — you have to sideload an SBS-capable player. Once that's solved, the passthrough composite is OS-level and the per-eye resolution gives you the cleanest mask edges of any current headset.
